Thoughts on Redington CT rod

do any of you folks have this rod? if so, how do you like it? I’m looking into getting a 9’ 5 or 6wt (most likely a 6) graphite rod primarily for trout nymphing that also excels at throwing dries. I currently only fish glass (my Steffen 8’ 5/6wt is my goto for all dries) and sometimes bamboo for trout. I’m just looking for a little extra length (who isn’t) for nymphing. I do have a 9’ 6wt but it is much too fast for the application. It’s great for launching flies into the surf or Puget Sound beaches, but not at all what I want for trout nymphing.

from what I understand, the CT is more of a medium action stick which also really appeals to me as I don’t really care for the super fast action rods unless I’m fishing salt.

oh, I should also mention that I’m looking in that price range ($130ish) max since this won’t be my primary fishing rod (only for a couple of the rivers I fish regularly)

I am interested as well. Would like a slower action rod for smaller waters.

cool thanks…yeah, that review got me thinking about it. From asking around at my local fly shops, no one’s really heard of it. That, and they’re always trying to get me to buy something they have in stock (like a Loop AEG TB—sweeeet rod, but out of my price range for what I want it for).

I can’t really comment on the 5wt, but my 2wt is buttery smooth. One of my better niche additions to my quiver. Find a place to cast one and put it in your hands. You’ll be opening your wallet.

i have the 8’6" 3 wt. and to plagarize mumbles, it is indeed “buttery smooth”. have yet to fish for trout with it, but the local bluegills have been great fun.

I ended up getting the 9’ 5wt., and like others have stated, it is buttery smooth. It’s a tad faster than my Steffen Brothers glass rod (not a lot though) but it really shines over here on the Deschutes River throwing either a nymph setup or dries because I can punch it through the wind pretty easily (not as easy with the slower glass rod). The finish is a little rough in a couple of spots, but that’s never been something I’ve ever been concerned about since I always buy rods to FISH them, not to look at them…so I’ve always been most concerned with how a rod fishes and this is definitely a keeper.

I actually seriously considering getting it in a 3 as well at some point in the near future…
