This Oklahoma Fly fishing thing ain't too bad! (pics attached)

hey everyone - thanks for all the encouragement and tips about warm water fishing now that I’ve relocated to Oklahoma.

There is a pond on the golf course where I live and this morning I brought out the float tube and put on the poppers and went after whatever I would find in there. Turns out there were bluegill and bass in there. And they were hungry this morning!

I knew that there were a bluegill in there because I saw all their spawning beds - some with golf balls in them. And these were not the stunted little bluegill that I had chased around as a kid in a rock quarry.

Here are some pics - one question - do these bass look underfed to you? With all the bluegill in here, I find it hard to believe that there’s not enough for them to eat…

I’m still planning on getting down to hit the cold water trout streams in the southeast part of the state, but hopefully this will keep me from getting too rusty.

Tight lines everyone - I’m having a blast with this warm water thing - who would have thought???

maybe the bass have just finished spawning?

nice pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Tim

Jim,

Glad to see you back! Looks like OK is treating you pretty good so far. Are you getting use to not fishing with 7X tippets and size 26 midges yet!

JOE! (aka Colonel Klink)

How the hell are you?!?!?!?!?!?

Yeah - I have BOXES full of those tiny little midges that I tied while fishing Brookville. If I used those here the bluegill would have them in their gullet before I ever knew they were on. Not to mention that I’d never get them out of the weeds here. As soon as they are on the head for the nearest weed bed and bury themselves head down. I’ve always manages to horse them out if they don’t get out on their own, but I have lost one or two that must have wrapped around a stump.

How are the Klinkhammers fishing on Brookville? I really miss those waters. Just got too busy when Tess was born to get away and before she got old enough we move to Oklahoma.

But word is that there are some great stocked tailwaters here in Oklahoma with a few generous souls who have volunteered to share the stream and show me the holes, not unlike what we did back at Brookville.

Take care, my friend and I hope to see some Brookville fish pics up soon!
