Looks like Ron began trimming out some dead wood. Our ranks shrunk from 10,700 to 6300+ in a matter of a couple of hours!
Well, they can come back if they want to.
Have to clean up the computer now and then or it gets all gummed up.
To those who wre “pruned” or chose to withdraw, all I can say is ADIOS. I recall ONE honorable “leaving” from this site (whose name shall remain…) . He simply said/wrote " I’m outta here" .
Mark
I always miss the drama, so why the mass exodus? I take it that it is more a matter of deleting some registered users that haven’t posted in a couple years than people leaving for some reason that something offended them.
If you play by the rules and are nice and respectful there should be no reason to go anywhere.
Rick
Remember that post you did a while back on …
John, I post on too many forums about too many things and I’m too old to remember what I did yesterday so NO, I don’t remember what you are referring to.
If you prefer a pm, that’s cool, somebody fill me in.
Rick
Clay? I think John was pulling your leg. There wasn’t a post (offensive one at least!) that you made that is causing the exodus. Just a general clean up of people who have registered and never posted. It’s OK … really!
NO problem. Most of them registered, looked for a day or two and left. If anyone is wanting to be a real member they will post something.
I’m sure I have done that with many discussion boards. I wouldn’t feel bad if they ‘pruned’ me.
No big deal.
BBW … you’d really not mind being pelted by bunch of prunes?!
I’d rather my fingers and toes got all “prunie” standing in the water fishing!!
Thanks for shedding some light on things Betty, that’s what I thought they were referring to. As far as making offensive posts goes, one of thee reason that I hang out here ocationally is that most people play nice and the ones that don’t get reminded to play nice. Life’s just too short for constant conflict about a hobby that is suppose to be “for fun”.
Ain’t that the truth! You just can never appreciate HOW short!
What Betty said.
No problem John, I didn’t seriously think that it was anything that I said. A little humor is always a good thing in life.
Now I am thinking of being on the water this weekend and life is good.
I go off for a few days of R&R and come back to almost half of what I left, membership wise.
Hey, for those of us who played the “when will we hit the 10,000 member mark” we get to play again.
I recall stating we will hit 11,111 members on 01/11/11. That is more realistic now with all the pruning. Jim
Ahhhh, pruning. It needs to be done. And if somebody hasn’t logged in for a few years, it’s really simple to re-register. Or am I wrong?
Have you ever run “Disk Cleanup” or “Disk Defragmenter” on your compooter?
Well, you should once in a while. It’s just good maintenance for your Box-O-Rocks.
Same-O, Same_O for a big server. Makes things work more gooder.
Sonny, not to strain at gnats, but defragging a disk simply re-arranges the data so that files are (mostly) in contiguous blocks of memory so that files can be read more quickly. Pruning off thousands of users actually reduces the amount of data being stored by the system. Both can speed-up read times but in the first instance all of the data remains.
It’s like rearranging or sorting the flies in your flybox versus removing flies from it to put somewhere else.
(Hope I didn’t open a can of worms.)
regards,
Ed
Hey Ed worms are good bait the kind you dig out of the barnyard and the plastic one also. I have an unused gulley look like for my long rods also.
This pruning stuff is pretty gently, I am told the original Americans ran the herd off the edge of the cliff, skinned and ate what ever didn’t avert the fall.
I think it sounds like a lot of the folks who got “pruned” may never know it. I’m sure, like has been said, that some folks register, take a look or two and maybe never come back. From what I can see, the serious regular users are mostly still here, and if they got pruned, they won’t take it personally, they’ll just come back…
If the operators of this site think it’s something that is needed for the efficiency of the site… we should just roll with it, in my opinion. Like some wise and powerful philosopher or other once said…“change is normal” I’m sure any “pruning” wasn’t prompted by anything anyone said on here…I don’t see everything, but so far I haven’t seen anything to get all in a dither over. I’m not even sure what a dither is…
This is a great site, and a great bunch of folks…I’m very glad it’s still important enough to the dedicated people who keep it going that they’re doing what they need to do to continue.
A thousand Thank-Yous to all of you who make it happen…ModocDan
