Thinking about the Catskills

Hi folks…

My best friend and I are thinking about fishing the Catskills in Fall.

What would be the ideal town/village to stay in that would be centre to all the streams we could fish.

We love the small streams, but aren’t afraid of the rivers, so long as they are manageable.
But PREFERABLY, small streams.

Any bits of wisdom, advice is appreciated in regards to this subject.

Either a post or an ‘inter-e-mail’ is dandy.

Thanks, and take care.

Sincerely,
Ye humble Bad Lucketh of the Larry variety

Recently voted best trout town - Roscoe, NY.

Walking distance, albeit a good walk, to the immediate Willowemoc or the Beaverkill. Driving time to other areas of Willow or Beaverkill from 5 to 15 minutes. Driving time to East Branch of Delaware, Main Stem of Delaware, West Branch of Delaware, Neversink or the Esopus Rivers in 20 to 45 minutes depending on where on those rivers you want to go. Lots of choices and good time to visit the area.
Oh, I’m not sure exactly how you define ‘small streams’ but there are parts of the Beaverkill, Willowemoc and Neversink that I think would qualify. The East Branch Del might. I’m not sure about the Esopus.

Yep, Roscoe is the place to stay. Riverside Motel and rest. is nice. Not in town but right on the Beaverkill. The Baxter House is right in town

Oh, a few places that you may want to check out (assuming that you’re not camping. In that case, add Roscoe Campgrounds):
Rockland House – Roscoe Motel – Riverside Motel – Baxter House – Reynold’s House & Motel – Creekside Cabins.

Yes, Roscoe. To fish the Beaverkill or the Willowemoc you can just drive along Old Route 17 and you’ll see plenty of parking areas for anglers. Also, a good, inexpensive guide book is the one by Eric Peper and Gary Lafontaine.

As for the “famous” Roscoe diner, I’ll let you decide.

Hey Bad Luck,

I forgot to mention, you should do a search on this site for “Fish In Roscoe”. You’ll find 3 for 2003, 4, and 5. You can check the introduction and report and then look at the many photos. You should get some good tips and ideas from that information.
