Think you can tie?

I’m updating some of the Sponsor pages and stumbled on this:

WOW!

Is that by Mike George?

Its a pink terrycloth slipper, right? ;o)

just kidding…Wow, that’s really putting the right amount of the right color of bucktail in exactly the right places, huh!

Innnnnncredible !!!

Mike

That is indeed Mike George’s work. See http://www.mustad.no/mso/ and scroll down to the Open category. He took 1st!

Wow! That’s beautiful !

i’ll go out on a limb and say this one might be harder to tie

Not to be cantankerous, but,, would that be an assemblage, or a tye?

I’ve had the privilege of watching Mike tye, and if taking one of his deer hair classes. Not very good at what I can put out, but I could watch him tye all day long!!

Actually I have an ulterior motive in posting this one, we are doing our International Atlantic Tying Contest again, I think this may be our 5th year! Stay tuned for more information.

RE thread title: Yep, I can tie. Just not like that…
Quite remarkable!

Mike and his wife have a daughter and son-in-law who live in Houston and they have scheduled their annual visits for four of the last five years so that he could come tie at our (Texas FlyFishers) annual Fly Tying Festival. Needless to say, it is easy to find where he is sitting because of the crowd around him. Everyone should see the flies he ties. He can pack deer hair so tightly that he can actually finish some of them off with sandpaper! He is EXTREMELY willing to share his secrets. WHAT A GUY! He says that he is an artist first and foremost and that deer hair is his medium. He does sell his flies at $75.00 a pop (2008 prices).

That fly reminds me of the old gun-fighter’s lament. No matter how good you get, there’s always a faster gun around somewhere. That fly was definitely tied by a faster gun. 8T
