Well as I write this thread I was diagnosed last week with Type II Diabetes. This was a blessing in disguise for me. I now started thinking for the first time and took action on changing my diet, losing weight and getting in good shape. It’s only been one week but the ball is in motion and my motivation is so high, I can not describe. I look at this and realize I could have had a lot worse than this diasese. This Holiday season I am truly thankful for my life and a wake up call to change before it’s to late. My question to all, what are all of you thankful for this year and have any of you given it a thought. I feel everyone one should even if everything in this world is going your way.

Andy B;
Last June my test showed a very high level of sugar at a dangerous level. My triglyceride 333. I gave up sugar, learned to drink coffee black, used “Splenda” as a sweetener, no colas (well, 4 since then), Archway “Sugarless Cookies” for the sweet tooth (The Oatmeal are very good), Cut way down on the starch, 5 grain low carb bread, lots of salads, cereal, Low Fat Triskets for a snack, etc
Lost 13 pounds and lowered the Sugar to 140 in 11 weeks!!
Andy, I was lucky to get my wake up call when I did. I’m 66 and take no prescibed medication! Natural vitamins, Garlic, some stuff for the joints, Etc.
Scared the H… out of me and I changed my diet!!
I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!
As is NOT unusual, JC stole my thunder. To begin to itemize that for which I am thankful would take up more space than this forum could handle. Suffice it to say, I have a lot to be thankful for and I am.

Short list, I am most thankful for my wife. While she doesnt fish or do anything related to ffing she is most tolerant of my addications. Although the latest of bamboo almost brought here to the edge. There of course is more but she is number one
Lost 30 pounds so far , on my way Hopefully to better health , hoping to continue along that path . I sure feel better for it . I am thankful for that . Really thankful for finding FAOL last Feburary .
Oh yes I almost forgot , thankful that I don’t have to worry about bandwidth . Thanks JC and LF

It’s funny how, in the course of life, you come to value the things that have much more meaning than you realized earlier on.
Over this past summer, due to an aggressively growing interest in this cane thing and through a good mutual friend, I got to know a cane maker in Mpls by the name of Dave Norling. Dave is 75 yrs. young. And I mean young!
Never have I a met a guy who is kind, so generous and so full of lifes pleasures. He has accomplished so much with himeself, his family, his friends. And still continues to do so.
Just this morning, on the way into work, I caught myself thinking “David, my only wish is that I’d met you 25 years ago.” Oh, don’t I wish.
Life’s odd like that. We have so much to be thankful for!
I’ll lead off with the "4 F’"s…
Faith, Family (ever-growing), Friends, & FAOL!
There are many other things, but it seems all the others are “byproducts” of the above.
