i can find material lists for this fly, but not the tying instructions. anybody familiar with the danger baby that could post the tying steps? thanks

Using the foto and recipe provided in the following link, just tie in materials in the order they appear in the recipe. Its easy!!

thisis a killer fly have used it several times and with great success

Looks like a good panfish fly. I will be trying it.

Tim

heres my intepretation:

slide gold bead head up to eye, insert hook in vise, cover the entire shank with chartruse thread, wrap to the front, wrap to about mid shank or 3/4 of the way back and tie in that antron wing, with thread wraps underneath to support it in the upright position, wrap to the back leaving about 1/8" of thread exposed (for the tag tail) tie in 3-4 peacock herls, wrap thread forward to the bead, wrap herl forward and around the wing, wrap it to the eyes and tie it off. whipfinish and then go fishing!

thats how i would tie it, good luck!

Very good instructions!

thanks

thanks all. tied up a few last night. turned out pretty well for a rookie. also added some thin gold wire on some of them to see if that aids in the durability. saw a couple of recipes, some with and some without the gold wire.

This fly has been one of my go to flies for years, and works for panfish or trout. I tie it with one major variation from the above, by counterwrapping a gold wire to reinforce the peacock herl.

For those visual learners among us, you can find both a recipe and photos of tying steps for the fly in John Van Vliet’s “The Art of Fly Tying” or his “Fly-Tying Techniques and Patterns.” The old Fly Fisherman CD-ROM, “The Art of Fly Tying” even has step by step film clips for the fly.

Wow, I think I actually have all the ingredients for this one. Usually when I run across a pattern, I am missing at least one. Nevermind the fact that I have spent hundreds of dollars over the last 20 years on materials. I think I have my pattern to try today.

Thanks

Dave

Well

Here is my best out of 3. Thanks for a great pattern. I hope it catches fish as promised.

looks good dave. did you use antron or z-lon for your wing. my wife picked up some type of braid material at joann’s that worked well for me, but it was a brighter green. still looked good. did you use gold wire to secure at all?

The image and instructions are fine, but:

The Danger Baby is one of a number of excellent fly patterns developed by Theo Bakelaar of Denmark.

Last time I checked Theo “Mr. Goldbead” Bakelaar was from the Netherlands 8)

I used Antron, I can’t even remember where I got it. I didn’t use the gold wire, but that does sound like a good idea. I’ll have to try that when I tie more. Thanks
Dave

I’ve caught some nice steelhead with this fly. It will also work for panfish.

Thanks for the link. I’m opting for the Brass Hare instead. JGW
