In a recent issue of Fly Tyer, an article on poppers metions using clear nail polish on a popper body after marking it with markers. I am using the recommended markers and the polish makes the marks smear. Is this normal or am I missing a step somewhere?
Baybum I have had the same problem with Sally Hanson Hard As Nails. Have switched to Loon Hard Head clear; it seems to not smear.
Also depends on what type of markers you are using. I find permanent markers work the best, and they need plenty of time to dry.
I have used prismacolor and sharpie markers and have let them dry for days.
the reason it cause this issue is the make up of sallies, it the acetone in sallie that cause the ink to run, on the other hand the Loon is water base.

Shoot them with a quick mist of spray shellac (fixer or various other names in cheap spray cans at big box stores) to seal the colors without running and then paint with Sally… Shellac sticks to everything and everything sticks to shellac…
Just coat it with any clear acrylic water based paint. You can get it at any craft store. The paint comes in small bottles. Cheers!
