The Tick Pond

One of my favorite places…the ashphalt turns to gravel then dirt…the path turns from mud to grass and it is quite, except for the racket all the birds and water fowl make.

Waded around with a small bugger probing for Gills…caught 30 or so, most about 6" with quite a few around 10" or so.

Decided on where to turn, switched to a size 8 Wooly Bugger with a long tail…picking up the Large Mouth Bass on the way back (about 10…small guys)…I have taken to calling this a reverse wade…dunno why, sounds technical but it simply keeps me from changing fly at spots that look more Bassy.

It’s Gills in one direction, Bass in the other.

Thought of the guy who named this the Tick pond as I left and saw a young couple walking around each other in circles looking at their legs…didn’t mistake it for a mating ritual, simply stated they better watch out for ticks in those woods with shorts on…“ugh…is that what these are?” They got in the car and left…stopping 20 feet later for one more leg check.

Great place, hardly anyone braves those ticks a second time and only a loon wears waders on a hot day like me…so, no ticks!

Love it! An almost haiku fishing report - more please.

10" bluegills?? Those are JUMBOS!!

There are some big ones in there but rumor has it there was a big fish kill there last summer and I believe it was probably true, the poopulation is very much different than last year…seems the larger ones are scarse and in general many less fish.

The pond got completely weed chocked

ahh, looking again at the handle of my fly rod…let’s say 8-9" at best…10" is pretty big

Heh, heh. I’m glad the name has kind of stuck. I like it. The Tick Ponds. Actually sounds kind of official.

Glad to hear you had a good time up there though, especially after the last report. I haven’t been up there this year yet, but I might have to make a trip.

Last year after catching my fill of rock bass and BG, on a yellow gurgler and hare’s ear dropper I decided to try a chart/white clouser and picked up…more BG! These were bigger though and boy were they fun! I found the biggest ones to be in the north east corner of the pond. Just walk out from the little fingure that sticks out there. Good times.

I kind of feel for that couple you saw though. I know what that’s like!!

Really loks like the weeds are taking over BIG time…I wonder how long it will be before the Tick Pond is just a Tick Meadow?
