Left-to-Right: LTD Sulphur, CDC Sulphur, Thorax Sulphur
Reports of Sulphur hatches are beginning to come in and that means time to double-check the bins of the “big three”. For me, these three patterns comprise nearly all of my Sulphur fishing on top throughout the season.

A nice set of Sulphurs.
Enjoyed reading your blog,

Around here the fish like the body on the water. A puff daddy works great dressed with dry magic and frog Fannie.or a comparadun
Bill, same here. All three of these patterns have a clipped bottom m and lay flush.
Ralph,
You haven’t cut the hackle flat on the bottom. Does the fly ride up on the clipped hackle?
Byron, the hackle is v-notched gap length on all three. The pattern is supported in the film on all three. Clipped hackle will still keep a fly in the film, but doesn’t suspend a pattern such as a Catskill style pattern may. the LTD hangs in the film by the CDC loop with the abdomen and tail submerged. The CDC Dun lays completely flat in the film since its also sparsely hackled. The thorax rides dry, but very low.
Interesting. The way the flies are sitting up in the photo sorta makes them look like the body would be slightly suspended above the surface.
Thanks for the clarification.
Agreed, mainly because they are propped up on side hackle fibers that supports little in the film.
