Now you see it; now ya don’t!
I would like to leave one of the ‘spam’ posts up sometime (buy cheap drugs here type) and ask about ten thousand of you guys to reply with huge files and bomb their mailbox but you might be affraid it would put you on their list. We get them every day and usually remove the post and the new user. I have now removed one of the jerks post but, changed his password and neglected to tell him what the new one is. At least he won’t come back in with that name and email address.
You sly old devil you!
Thanks JC. The labors you and LF must have to go thru…
…lee s.
Thanks JC & LF We may not always say it but you guys do a heck of a job on here.
JC,
Most of the time I agree with you, but being MEAN to these poor SPAMMERS! By the way! I live in Nigeria and my Mother just died a couple minutes ago and left me millions of dollars that I need help investing in the US. Could you be a Fishing Guide for my son by a previous marriage?
You don’t need to send me your account numbers until my Mother is buried.
Sincerely,
Your Bestest and Dearest Brother in the Lord and also Friend in Nigeria.
My whole ten member family WANTS to learn to flyfish.
Please be our Guide.
Blessings to you.
Doug
P.S. I have learned this info from thousands of brothers in Nigeria.
Aw, it’s not just us, all web sites have these scum-bags posting crap every day. They get payed just to put them up. They could care less if they stay up.
I wish someone could come up with a special file on a floppy disc that I could put in my PC and reply back to them and this special file cause their PC to do a “melt down”! I get so tired of spam! I feel for you, JC and LF, for what you must go through with spam day in and day out. Thanks for all the hard work you go through to keep this site going for all of us.
Actually most of them are bots, not even a person. One of the reasons for the funny letters when you are registering for a new message board. That stops alot of the bots from spamming your site.
Right lucky, one reason we use the letters too. Thanks for helping clear this stuff up.
I can’t do much about email spam. However junk mail that comes to my door with return envelopes are filled with other junk mail and promptly returned. I hope they open it to check for new prescriptions and waste a lot of time doing it. People who show up at my door soliciting are politely asked to wait, I’m just finishing up dinner. I gently close the door. One guy waited a full 5 minutes before finally cluing in. Did I feel sorry for him, nope!
for phone soliciters I listen to their spiel judging about when they are almost done. Most have learned it by heart . You then say, Hello are you still there I’m sorry I had to run into the other room the dog was chewing the curtains. Most of the time they start over from the beginning because they lost their place . About 1/2 way through the third time thru they clue in and hang up. One person even said to me , your just wasting my time aren’t you, thats not nice. He made it way too easy as I replied “well isn’t that what your stupid phone call is all about waisting peoples time.” Yep You guessed it He hung up . Big surprise huh?
I knew there was something I liked about you,
Gnu Bee when I get those phone calls I tell them I have to put them on hold and just hit the hold button and leave them hanging . It is their dime paying for the call.
Rocky
On the phone calls I wait until the questions comes about income. "I then ask “Is this with or without the welfare payments?”
If that question is not on the list I tell them I want their phone number so I can call back when it is convient for me.
That seems to end my inovlvlement on their lists.
Rick
Guess I should to change my tactics; but I probably won’t. I do agree they are a pushy pests, but it’s the job they have now and I don’t know all the details why. Maybe it’s the best thing they can find. I let them know as soon as I understand what it is they want that I am not interested and don’t waste their time. I feel best doing it that way, but that’s just me. I usually say, “No thanks, I’m not interested,” and hang up.
One word…
Missouri No-Call list. (…er, three words)
Best thing since sliced bread. If a solicitor calls and you’re on the list - you write their information on a little card, mail it to Jefferson City (capitol) and the State adds them to their list. Too many reports and the company ends up paying a fine, usually a few thousand bucks for their failure to follow the law.
The No-Call list is available to soliciting companies from the State. So far it’s working very well after 3 years on the list.
Now, if they could figure out how to do that with email…
I have written a program that in less than an hour could be modified to send recurring emails with attachments until you tell it not to. If we had 3,000 of them going to one site forever I wonder what the response would be. There is nothing that requires you to put in a real reply to address either. Maybe I should do that and require a minimum contribution to the conservation group of your choice. I hate spammers!!
