The Sedgehog

Someone in the Chat-room asked about the Sedghog_
This is the recipe given by Stan Headey the man who invented the Sedgehogl

SEDGEHOG
Hook - Partridge E1A or L3A, 12 & 14
Silk - black
Body - claret, fiery brown, or olive green seal’s fur
or wel-mixed hare’s mask fur
Wing - bunches of deer hair, tyed matuka style (dark deer hair with the dark dubbings, and light hair with the lighter dubbings)

Tying Tip: As each bunch of hair is tied in, lay a couple of turns of dubbed thread is over the deer hair roots, to prevent the deer hair from spining.

Thank you Donald! I appreciated the effort you undertook in answering my question.

Donald, Thanks for posting the information about this fly. It has some similarities to the Mikulak Sedge that they use up in the Kamloops region in BC. I have adapted it by tying it in orange for our October Caddis hatch here in Montana. It makes a grat pattern for skating during that hatch.
