This is a very good-looking attractor nymph pattern originated by Joe Cornwall. The first time I saw this fly, I thought it was a beautiful pattern!*I really like the black tips on the Golden Pheasant Tippet fibers.*They look like the hairy footpads some swimming insects use for propulsion. They can also resemble the black edges found on certain small fish.
Interesting fly! I like colors…and it always amazes me how colors and their effectiveness can change water-to-water.

This weeks “Fly of the Week” submitted by David Merical (FishnDave) is a great nymph pattern to use in everyday fly fishing. I really like the way that the Golden Pheasant Tippets are used for the tail and wing-case/legs. I also like how the legs are spread out along the sides of the nymphs thorax, somewhat DeFeo Style in appearance with the side mounting.
I also appreciate, the display of other material variations in the final photo of the article. This give the fly tier options to use whatever materials they have on hand to create their own nymph pattern off of the instructions for the Orange Nymph.

Thanks fellas! All credit for the pattern go to Joe Cornwall. Many of us may be familiar with Joe from the Fly Fish Ohio website, or from Joe’s book on fly-fishing warmwater streams.
The variations are nearly endless, and fun to come up with. One variation I haven’t fished, but like for its aethetics, is one with a red body, and white Lady Amherst tippets for the tail and legs. Maybe substitute some blue for the thorax, and you’d have a very nice patriotic fly?
