The Missour Fish-In page is up!!!

For those interested, the Missouri fish-in page is up!!!

It has all the contact information, dates and events (except for the speakers dates, those will be set once I know who will be there when so I can try and schedule them so more of us can take advantage of them).

There is also a confirmation page if you are going. Please add your name to the list so I can get an idea of how many of us there will be.

Thanks,

Thunderthumbs.

Only two months to go!!! Nothing as beautiful as the Ozarks in the fall!! Good fishing, instruction forums, hiking trails, good food, flyfishing stores, great people …

Hi, I just sent the e-mail to add my name to the “I’m going” list.

I hope to firm up the exact dates I’m going in the next few days. Right now I’m thinking I’ll go Wednesday morning the 10th and stay until Sunday the 14th.

I’ve never been to Bennett Spring and I fish mostly for panfish so I am looking forward to this.

Actually, I’ve never fished a river or stream before either, so this will really be a new experience for me.

Man are you in for a treat. I’d be happy to give you a few pointers when you get there if you’d like. I’ve even got a few flies you can try. It’s really a lot of fun down there.

I hope lots of people sign up and makes this event a success. Schedules just would not quite work this year. We will be there for a week but not starting until the 14th on Sunday. With a little luck I might still get to meet some of you on Sunday. We are really looking forward to our time there because the park is beautiful then and there are lots of fish and the water is usually very clear so you have to work a little harder. This will be our first trip since the snow storm at Easter time, so even if I don’t meet anyone I plan to enjoy the heck out of myself. One question I have though is how will I know if someone is a FAOL member? Will there be some kind button or badge, or tatoo on the forehead, or what? I will be in the water at the opening whistle on Sunday morning and would hate to have to ask every one arround the stone bridge if they are a FAOLer. I really would enjoy meeting some of the members here that have expressed the same kind of good feelings about Bennett Springs that I have.

Many serious FAOL’ers have a patch, hat, pin,or bumpersticker. Sometimes just a name tag.

Caps?!? We may have CAPS!?!?

Not ‘may’, usta!
even sweatshirts too

I’ll take pointers from whoever is willing to give them. I need them all. To say that I am excited about this trip is a serious understatement.

Speaking of flies, I’ve already talked to the Rainbow fly shop, but I know every one has their own favorites. What flies do you use at Bennett Spring?

Crackle backs, Adams, tiny dries, wolly buggers (little ones 14-16). That’ll keep you jumping!!

Castwell,

Are there hats or sweatshirts already made up that we can get to pass out to attending members? That would be great if there are.

Don’t forget the renegades. They are a favorite of mine for dries, sizes 12 and 14. Bring lots of 7X tippet too!

Sorry, they are gone. They were premiums for joining FAOL Friends. Patches are the item these days. Some guys sew them on their hat or vest etc.

I fished Bennett Springs last week. I must say it was a far superior experience to what I recall from the past. This was my first trip there to fish in about 6 years. Fish quality was MUCH better. I had a great time with a good friend and we caught many, many, many trout on dries, soft hackles, and zebra midges. My smallest was about 14" and I was taken to the backing twice. And everyone we came in contact with was very pleasant. I will be in Michigan during the FI. Otherwise, I would definitely be there.

That’s the kind of report we need to get folks excited about attending. Thanks for the update, and I’m sorry to hear you won’t be able to make it.

Yippee, I’m gearing up. Bought my waders at Cabela’s over the weekend.

My brother, dad, and I caught several nice fish on Friday. Midge dries and soft hackles were the most productive for us, but I saw people catching fish using many different types of flies and methods. No matter your preference - from glo-balls to dry flies - you’ll catch some nice fish. Show up for some big fun.

Question about soft hackles. How do you fish these at Bennett? Probably a dumb question, but I’ve never fished in a river nor at Bennett. I usually heard about people fishing soft hackles “on the swing”. From what I’ve heard about Bennett and the number of people there, it doesn’t sound like it would be possible to fish anything “on the swing”.
