The Long Rod, Reverse Hackled Flies etc.

I have been making some modifications to my web-site.
There is now a section on the Long Rod (Loop Rod) ancient and modern.
There is a section on Reverse Hackle flies and within that an updated
Tenkara section, quite a few flies added.
Have a look on the Menu, or

They are all inter-connected, for obvious reasons, I had already a lot of
this info on the web-site, but re-organising it took quite a bit of time.
Luckily my eyes do not seem to be bothered by my working on the internet.

My next job is to dress some flies which I will have to do gradually and not
strain the ‘old eye-balls’. I want to complete the Leisenring Nymph section.

Donald, do you ever use bobwhite quail feathers to dress your soft hackles? I used breast feathers in the first flies that I ever tied.

Ed

Bobwhite Quail are not common over here Ed, I have been buying some North American Upland Game
skins. I’ll keep my eyes open for it.

Donald,

Your pictures of your flies came out very nice.

Donald,
Very interesting web site  I give a A+.

Donald, I know it has been a while since 12 August and season has likely closed, but have you tried neck/breast feathers from Scottish Grouse for soft hackle patterns? Those hackles would not be speckled or barred, but might have an interesting reddish hue.

I like the sight, very informative. Under pictures you like, there is a sketch of a man and a picture of a woman. Is that by chance you and maybe your wife or just another female?

The “Pictures” portion of the site also contains a magpie-painting by Claude Monet. Monte Dolack, the Missoula artist, painted a satire of that in which the magpie is sitting on a yellow, diamond shaped road sign that had served as a rifle target.

They are all pictures I like, the first two because of their connection with fly fishing,
the the third is a portrait of Ralph Vaughan-Williams a favourite composer and the
fourth is a portrait by Klimt. I do not believe in displaying pictures except when they
have some artistic worth, or at least in my eyes. I am rather ordinary in appearance
and do not need to see any pictures of a face I can see every morning in the mirror.

But Donald, do you really want to look in that mirror some morning and see of bunch of anglers from the U.S. (and the Island Nation of Ohio) standing behind you to see your face looking back out at them, erm, us…
I have a solid excuse. I’m not ordinary in appearance. I’m so ugly pictures of my face are banned in 17 states, 2 Canadian provinces and, ironically, the Isles of Scilly.

Not so ironic, Ed. There are already many shipwrecks there, and perhaps they seek no more. See, e.g.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_shipwrecks_of_the_Isles_of_ScillyJ
Just kidding; you may look like Leonardo DiCaprio for all I know. Wouldn’t that be ironic? [
