The fly shop catalog

Did anyone else get a catalog from The Fly Shop, based out of Redding, CA? Its strange to me as I’ve never heard of them, nor would it make sense to send a catalog to someone in Maryland! I mean yes they do have nice stuff and some flies I think I’ll order, but strange nonetheless.
Heres their site.

Since you asked…I have gotten their catalog for years.

I got one about a week ago, also unsolicited. I just figured FAOL gave them my name and address and told them I could afford the time for all those trips ??

Not my kind of thing or things. Hope they don’t waste any more bucks sending me future editions.

Love that catalog!

Yep – got mine this week. I do shop there frequently.

The Fly Shop is one of the best shops on the West Coast (in my opinion – for what that worth). If you are ever in Redding, CALIF. be sure to stop by. There shop is right along interstate 5

they also have a pretty good web site

I bought a few things from them a couple years ago and still get the catalog. Somehow they managed to track me from the beaches of NC to the mountains of VA.

excellent company, great staff, i have been shopping with them for about 20 years. i used to live up that way in cottonwood. now i’m in mississippi and still order from them.

always get it. don’t know if i signed up for it or what. can’t remember

They’ve been around for as long as I’ve been looking online. They just changed there site and graphics recently.

I got one this week, also unsolicited. I thought it was because of FFF where I just re-upped in Dec. Haven’t had time to go through it yet. Maybe they got something I NEEEED. Jim

We do know the Fly Shop and tried several times to pick them up as a Sponsor. But it would not matter, NO ONE gets any information about you from FAOL. We do NOT rent, lend, sell, give ANY information about our readers to ANYONE. That includes your email address. We have been asked…and frankly the money is pretty good. We don’t do it because we don’t want to be treated that way. It’s called doing what’s right.

I’ve been getting it for years and I live in New York. I don’t think I buy from them alot, but it’s one of the catalogs that I look through when I’m trying to find something that I can’t find.

Yep, Panfisha your name was peddled. I subscribed to
Fly Tyer magazine a couple of years ago. My first copy came with my last name misspelled and ever since all fly fishing unsolicited mail came addressed with the same misspelling. I really don’t care though. I like getting the catalogs.

As for the Fly Shop, in 1978, at the Denver Fly Show I bought two J.K. Fisher rod blanks, aluminum rod cases and Hardy rod socks for $55 bucks a pop. A deal! A guy named Brad sold them to me. I requested guide spacings from him when I made the purchase. The show ended. Everybody left town, and low and behold a week later I got a letter from Brad addressed to me by my first name with the information. Don’t get better than that.

Brings back really good memories. The two rods are the ones I fish today, and wouldn’t trade 'em for all the graphite in cabela’s. Thumbing through the catalog, they still look like a first class outfit. It was nice to hear from them again, even if my name was hi-jacked. [ They must be doing something right they’re still in business.]

You guys that have not heard of The Fly Shop must lead a sheltered life, and should get out more often.

Even though they are a mere 700+ miles away by road, The Fly Shop is one of my “local shops”. For many years I made at least two trips a year to the area and always stopped in for some flies and other consumables and advise on local conditions. I have ordered a couple of rods from them over the years when I couldn’t get what I wanted locally. They currently market a fairly nice rod under their own label that costs $139 and comes with two tips.

I think i speak for most of us when i say “THANKS!!”

I thought everyone heard of the Fly Shop. Got the catalog last Saturday. Love going through the pages. When I worked for a medical device company we had our service facility a few doors down. I would visit the service facility a few times a year and always went to the Fly Shop . I was like a kid in a candy store. The shop is very well stocked and the folks there are friendly and knowledgeable. I never felt pressured to buy in all the times I have been there.

I recently bought a few things from them online. They gave me exactly what I ordered and shipped the next business day. Once though, my sister order me something from them and it got lost in the processing. Took her a while to get an answer about what happended to the order. She subsequently ordered a Christmas gift for me, they remembered her and made sure she got it pronto.

We thought they were good too, that’s why we asked them to be sponsors years ago. They were (lol) doing so good they didn’t need to. No idea where/how they are getting names now.

Then there was all the free stuff and givaways I signed up for at the last flyfishing fair I attended. First/last name. Address, phone number, email…Hey they said I might win something. I did. I got a catalog. I guess I’m the winner. Jim

I know I registered on their web site…geez…has to be six or seven years ago. I think I found them the same time I found FAOL. That’s how they got my address. They are one of the bigger online fly fishing outfits out there. I also think that if you signed on for some of the free online magazines out there…you ended up on the mailing list. I wouldn’t complain about getting there catalog. I quite enjoyed it myself. I like getting fly fishing catalogs. It’s easier to browse then the web sometimes.
