The end of my summer fishing!!!

well, I went and did it this time! I broke my wrist this past tuesday. I won’t get into how because I only have 1 hand to type with now, but i have to have surgery and will then be in a full arm cast for at least 3 months!!! I’m pretty bummed, the weather is just getting nice and the water fishable…go figure.

So, with that said, I’m going to have to live through your adventures. I wanna hear stories and see pictures.

TT.

TT, I’m sorry to hear this. I hope you are out and about soon. Perhaps the fall fishing will be good. Take it easy and heal well. Jim

Thats too bad. A real downer. Hope you have a speedy recoverery.

Tim

time to practice opposite hand lawn casting? you would be surprised how often opposite hand casting comes in handy. SILVER LININGS FOUND HERE…CHEAP!!

my casting hand is fine, i just cant use my other hand to strip line, etc. won’t be able to tie flies, just about nothing i like to do will be possible…grrrrrrrrr, lol. They have my thumb cast to the tip.

perhaps an automatic reel would help

Eric

Cast with the good hand and strip with your teeth? Sorry to hear about the wrist. Heal up so you can get out there in the fall and make up for lost time!

Knowing you, I’m gunna guess that when the swelling and pain subside, you’ll get really creative and get a couple fingers to work to strip line in! It’s easier to cast with a cast on the non casting arm (OK … say that three times FAST!!) … so simple stripping will come easy!

Waterproof fiberglass cast? You won’t even have to worry about getting it wet! The fishey smell is something else, but hey!

you can bet im going to try something, but looking at how disfunctional i am now with a cast only to the middle of my forearm…i can’t imagine how tough its goin to be with a full length cast on. Hmmmmm, Tim, didnt think about stripping with my teeth…guess ill have to grab the fish with my teeth to unhook it too…now that might be fun to watch, lol.

On a good note, I did get engaged last saturday, so the summer isn’t completely ruined!

Bummer on the break, congrats on the engagement. Was she feeling sorry for you when you asked, broken arm and all?

Hmmmmm, you’ll be getting out of that cast about the time of the Idaho Fish-In. Did you plan that? Does your fiance fish? Whether she does or not, bring her along. She’ll fish and tie before the Fish-In is over.

Heal Quick and well.

REE

Congrats on the engagement…but was your arm broken before the engagement or after? jusk askin’…

TT,
Sorry about the injury & wishing you a speedy recovery. When you DO fish again, it will be that much more enjoyable.

Folks,
NOW for the fun part. Since ol’ TT didn’t tell us HOW this happened, let’s make somethin’ up!
Maybe something like the day after he proposed having his Fiancee say, “You’re going WHERE? Well don’t let the door hit you in the a**!!” Then she slammed the door, missed his keester, but GOT the wrist.
Or maybe he was so overjoyed at her acceptance that when he jumped for joy he forgot about that ceiling fan.
Mikey
BTW, CONGRATS on the engagement. I’m sure you’ve hooked a dandy young lady!

Congratulations!! Any chance she might take the fish off for you?

Ya well you know we have to hear the whole story. Arms get broken often, wrists? Fall off something? Let’s hear it!
Hugs,
LF

TT, Sorry to hear of your misfortune; but, at least you could wade etc. Got to be a way to cheat that cast somehow and strip a line or as someone suggested how about an auto reel for a while to help? When I fell and finished off my old football knee was homebound for three months and another one before I could get to the water again. Wife of a friend that fly fishes fell and broke her wrist just before getting to the river. Did they quit and go to the doc’s immediately - NO! She sat on a rock and soaked her wrist in the cold tailwaters while her husband fished. Now, that’s a trooper!

Hello ThunderThumbs,
We havent met till now,but just want to say that I Hope your not in too much pain and have a speedy recovery Sir!!!

take the fiance fishing…tell her that the best way to get her to learn is if she strips for you…there are two way she can take this well…either way, you are a winner!!!

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Be safe!

well, my surgery went well, they put a screw in my wrist to join the two bones together so they will heal properly. The good news is that i should be out of this cast in 3-4 weeks instead of 3 months.

Thanks for everyones support.

Tim, i tried stripping with my teeth on sunday…worked pretty well until i hooked into a good sized rainbow. On its 3 runs the sharkskin line on my 4wt managed to file two of my teeth to a point. Looks kind of funny but it works great for gripping the fish when I’m de-hooking them.

Great suggestion.
