I was on the way home from visiting my mom today and thought I’d visit my favorite little three acre ice cube, er, I mean pond and see how it looked. Imagine my surprise when I saw a small corner of open water (no more than 75 feet at the widest point, but open nonetheless). I had my two weight and a few soft hackles in the truck with me (they live behind the seat full time), so I thought I’d get in a little casting practice (man, am I rusty!). Surprise number two: about the third cast, I could have swore I saw a twitch in my leader, I tightened up and sure enough, a small but very pretty bluegill! About a half hour and four more gills later, I was back in my truck, a huge smile on my face and finally believing the season might just change at some point after all. I’m still smiling:D
Tim,
Get back up here to Ohio & make this stuff MELT, will ya? Maybe we can get that steelie for you next trip…and, of course, a mess of nice 'gills.
Good for you. I’m envious!
Mike
Now THAT IS EXCITING! Great news and congratulations!
With most lakes around here still reporting 15" of ice (+/-), open water still seems a ways off. I finally saw a patch of brown grass in my back yard…for the first time in 3 months!
