I thought that this item in today’s Scotsman would be of interest -

From a pure local (Scottish) point of view, the comments from readers are the most interesting,
various axes being ground, mostly of no significance to American readers.
We have our share of bad tempered, parochial, loonie, grumps (of course, I am not one of them :shock: ).
I really enjoyed them. :slight_smile:

Also, I hope they can save the ‘Delta Queen’.

So do I, Donald. I rode her 40 years ago and it was grand. I hope that those who make our laws will allow this charming lady to continue to ply the waters of the Mississippi River for as long as she is safely able.

You would think that her safety record would stand for something. After all she was built at a time when pride in one’s profession was a greater motive than profit.

I’ve been on that riverboat a couple times. She comes to port here in Cincinnati a couple times a year.

I am torn over the news. Part of me believes her 80+ year safety record should stand for soemthing, and part of me says the Hindenburg had a pretty decent safety record too.

I hope something gets worked out.

Using that analogy, nobody should ever take up fly fishing because my casting is a disaster.

I believe that safety record should not stand for something, but it should stand by itself. The system works.

I would venture to say, most people can swim. Last time I checked, people have heavy bones and therefor cannot fly like birds. Also, the Delta Queen is equipped with life preservers and boats. The Hindenburg did not have parachutes, nor did it have a perfect record.

First cast at the Michigan FI and he hooks a honey. Her hubby even had a laugh over that one, and was more interested in getting a picture of it than removing the fly from her cheek.

Guys,
Please do not get me wrong. I dearly love the Queen. She’s a beautiful boat and has a connection to my town of Cincinnait. Watching her steam up the Ohio River and pull into port at the Cincinnati Public Landing is a thing of beauty. She has a grace and class that just does not exist today. If you’ve ever seen her on the river, you already know what I’m talking about. I’ve been on the boat and let me tell you, she’s just as clasy aboard ship as she is to watch from afar.

I doubt if anyone here would rather see this ship saved than me and I sincerely hope a compromise can be reached.
