Went with 8 friends for a winter hiking weekend in Central Ohio, and two of us decided we would rather fish the Clear Fork River for browns rather than hike the ungroomed trails. We made the better choice. Here is the first fish caught on the first rod built by me using my hand tied fly (#18 Copper John). For me this completes the cycle and firmly entrenches me in the addiction. The only other step would be the ultimate Dark Side…Boo! Thanks to everyone for your help and encouragement on #001.
Nice Bend in the 2wt!
Brought to hand, and gently released.
Here’s my friend with his very first fish on a fly rod. He’s hooked!
BTW, the temp was +13F with a chill factor of 0F and lower with the morning breezes. That’s why we’re all wrapped up on such a pretty day. Water temp was +36F.
Those are great pictures and that really puts the finishing touches on building a rod. I can only imagine what that must feel like since I have yet to build my first rod. I am getting closer to convincing myself to just do it. My only fear is that I spend all free time now with fly fishing and tying flies and just know that I would get addicted to rod building if I ever started.
