Keep up the good work at Fly Fish Ohio…I really love the videos. I have tied up a few sparrows and am waiting to get into some panfish with them.

I am going to be out at Wright Patterson this summer…probably the end of July…any recommendations.

That was a great video and article. They reminded me to get back to making some Blondes. I have been wanting to do that ever since I saw the Strawberry Blonde in McClane’s encyclopedia. McClane has a variation in the tying instructions. He is very specific that the tail section of bucktail should be twice as thick as the wing section. I do not know if this is part of the Brook’s original, but it creates a different effect.

Mike;

If you’re going to be at WP you have your choice of brown trout in the upper Mad River, smallies in the lower Mad right outside the north gate of WP, or smallies on the Stillwater which is about 10 miles west. Not a bad location to be in, fishing-wise. We’ve also got some amazing sight fishing for carp right in downtown Dayton on the GMR.

Brooks makes no mention and actually specifies two wings that are the same in length and density. There is nothing carved in stone. The one thing the fly does require, however, is a “cocked” front wing. Brooks states a 30 degree can’t is correct. I believe you should match this to the water - higher for faster water and lower for slower.
