Thanks to our WWII vets. 8T ![]()
THANK YOU ALL we are proud of all who served.
Can you imagine how fast and loud the calls for giving up would be today with that amount of casualties in such a short amount of time?
Incredible bravery and sacrifice by all soldiers and civilians involved on that day, that war; that time in our history.
I don’t know who mentioned it to me, but I am currently reading “Citizen Soldiers” which is a very good book. It really gives you a good idea of what the Allied and Axis soldiers had to endure. I suggest everyone read this book if you haven’t already. I salute those died and endured in that war.
IMHO, those guys were the “bravest of the brave”…they went headlong, pretty much unprotected, into the face of enemy fire. Out of a boat, onto the beach…open targets, yet they persevered. God bless 'em!

Thank you for the post. It is so sad that so many do not know the significance of June 6th, D-Day. Casualties are those killed, wounded, missing and taken prisoner. Total casualties for the Allied and German forces for D-Day have never been accurately tabulated but estimated to be about 425,000. Check out the D-Day Museum here:

I can never repay the debt I owe to those who were there. I honor and salute all! The Longest Day in History!
I have marched many times to this song. It is one of my favorites as is the movie. Do you know how hard it is to march as the guide-on bearer with a lump in your throat and blurred vision? Turn on your audio:

God Bless our brave Allied troops that stood in the face of such horrible evil.
Hey guys, I couldn’t agree more with the comments. As an aside the D Day museum is in my home town of Portsmouth, if you are ever in the area it is well worth a visit, as is the Royal Navy museum at the dockyard where you will find Nelson’s HMS Victory and the Mary Rose, and on the other side of the Harbour you will find the Submarine museum at HMS Dolphin.
The city realy is a Navy Town.
All the best.
Mike.
D-Day Article Excerpt; “Former service personnel, history buffs and the public gathered at the museum to remember the day in which more than 160,000 Allied troops and 30,000 vehicles landed along a 50-mile stretch of fortified French coastline and begin fighting on the beach in an attempt to regain France from Nazi control.”
