I noticed that TFO is a sponsor here so I thought I’d post this little message:
I just bought a TFO Lefty Kreh Professional rod in a 4wt 8’6" 4 piece configuration at Cabelas. I got it as part of a combo with the Cabelas SLA reel.
I am REALLY happy with this rod. It’s incredibly light and very responsive. It certainly has a different personality than my 7’8" slow action graphite non-name rod that I’ve been using. I can cast it further and more accurately already. A buddy of mine can cast it into the backing. I can’t quite get it that far.
The balance of the rod and reel combo is wonderful. As I hold the rod it balanced on my middle finger. I can cast it for a few hours (and I have) and I don’t feel fatigue in my arm or shoulder.
The SLA reel, by the way, is also pretty darn nice. When I reel it in there is absolutely no resistance at all. It’s completely silent. When I pull out line the drag doesn’t so much kick in as simply “appear”.
I’m happy. I haven’t caught a fish on it yet, but I love the way it feels.
I have the 9’ 4 weight and love it. I’ve found that it handles a WF5F like a dream. Every time I fish it, I’m reminded of how much I like it. More than once I’ve said; “Wow, Oh Yea! Nice stick!”
I can only comment on the TFO pro in 9wt. I owned one (9ft-4pc) and landed everything from Salmon to Striper on it. That rod cast well and held up fine. I recently sold it and replaced it with a custonm rod I built, the fellow that bought it from me recently landed a few nice salmon on it as well.
My experiences with the TFO pro have been very positive. Good Rod / up to the task.
I have an early Lefty Kreh 5 wt Professional. I am a steelheader but dabble in bass and brown trout fishing. The rod is well built and cast’s great. I will never buy another rod not built in America but this one is a very nice rod.
I have a factory 10’ 7 wt TFO pro and it is absolutely my favorite rod for chrome. I also built a 7’9" 3wt TFO Finesse this year and cannot take my hands off the rod. The action of the rod is perfect for delicate presentations and small stream tight quarters! As of my two purchases on the lower price point of TFO (not that there is really a high one), I have nothing that I could even imagine negative about their blanks/rods.
