Texas Georgia Giant Experiment Results

I’ve been running an experiment since Dec. '05 to evaluate the Georgia Giant as a small pond fish in Texas. I thought some of you might be interested in following along on the results.

The url listed below contains a synopsis, pictures of each data gathering event, and the tabular data itself. Comments and questions are welcome…and the experiment has a long way to go yet.

YESSSS!
Interesting indeed. Is that normal growth rate or high rate? Do you feed them?

pretty cool, can’t belive how fast they grow!

lee s,

I don’t know what “normal” growth rate is for these fish nor regular BG. If someone knows, I would really like to have that data.

The feeding rates are shown in the table and right now its about 1/4 pound per day.

If there is sufficient interest on here, I will continue to post updates during the growing season…my only reason for posting this is to get the data out to folks who are interested.

Meadow…,
We fished a lake (pond) in Eastern Wa., Khalotus L. Seems the lake comes and goes. Sometimes it gets planted…?
Anyway, it seemed the fish generally were about 6 1/2"-7 1/4" the first year we fished there. The next season they were generally around 7 1/2"-8". The next season up to 8 1/2" to the occasional 9"-10" fish.
We are fishing a pond now that was reported to have been rehabbed two seasons (3 now) ago and the gills are monsters…it seems. [url=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/leesoares/CIMG0730.jpg:c1670]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/leesoares/CIMG0730.jpg[/url:c1670]
The first pond died due to irrigation use and we were not able to see it
“level off”. That is our goal with the second pond…see where it “levels off”.
Completely un-scientific…

PS-Keep posting. VERY interested!
