Tenkara Flies

Here are some Tenkara Flies I have been tying. Hope you enjoy.

They are tied on Umpqua Competition Hooks C500BL, Embroidery floss for body, Chickabou or Hen Cape for the Hackle, Small Ultra wire for rib, and peacock herl.

Lookin good.

Other than the fact that it is traditional, what is the reason for the collar going forward rather than backward?

The next to the last one looks bumpy. Is that copper or thread? The others are supurb! and that one might be also but, I concur, I know nothing about Tenkara flies. I know what looks good and that one seem different than the others. I’m not ctitisizing your work, for sure, Just curious.

By the way, you can critisize my spelling.

Great job. You know I tried to get a Tenkara style fly swap together a while back and got zero takers. Maybe I’ll try it again if there are a few other tiers interested.

Nice job. However, you might want to sharpen the point on fly #3.

It is tied with a metallic embroidery thread. I take the embroidery thread and divide it into the 4 smaller strands that are actually another 3 or for strands of thread wrapped with a metallic ribbon or type of crystal flash.

Thanks for pointing that out. I did not notice it until you did. I wonder if that is the reason I had problems setting the hook on the gills or if it was because I was to slow setting the hook.

It gives it more action. You strip the hackle lays back. Stop and the hackle unfolds like a bait swimming.

Ok. I can buy that.

It also makes it look like an insect emerging from it’s larval state.
