TENKARA DAY
I had been reading the stuff on this for several months and I decided that I wanted to try it. I picked up one of Tenkara Bum’s starter rods at Sow Bug. I played with it a little on one day, but I knew I need to let the water warm up some. This was the day. It was 70+ degrees out. There was a slight breeze so I grabbed the Tenkara rod, the fish basket, and some flies. I did not take any other rod since I was going to learn to use this rod.
This sound a lot like my first trip out with my Tenkara rod in April. Very fun stuff in deed.
The people who think tenkara is only for mountain streams and only for trout have no idea what they are missing.
Rick, I have had a great time with my $60 Fountainhead 12’ Tenkara rod. This past Friday I was in Glen Rose, TX and discovery a covey of bluegill and small bass in a run below he dam at Rock Park on the Paluxy River. I hooked up an Elk Hair Caddis with a pheasant tail nymph below it and started casting in the riffle. I caught a combination of 24 bluegill and small large mouth bass in an hour. Talk about simple fun!
