Tap's Bug

I’ve wanted to tie Bass Bugs for a while, and I’ve known about flyfishohio for a bit, but I just (reasonably) successfully tied a Tap’s Bug – thanks to a terrific instructional video by Joe Cornwall. So I think I’ll be able to get the hang of this. Have to get some size A thread, though.

Anyone ever use that gelspun thread for bass bugs, and, if you do, what do you think about it?

Just recently tried the Gel Spun. The jury is still out. It tends to seperate so you might have to keep giving it a twist. It is strong and lets you apply a considerable amount of pressure when spinning hair.

Hope this helps a little.

BFB,

Get some ten pound test spiderwire braid for spinning hair (you can get it at WalMart or any sporting goods store that caters to bass fishermen).

It doesn’t ‘separate’ like the gel spun stuff sold for fly tying.

Spins hair really well.

Good Luck!
