Taking off waders

Real easy! Take those plastic grocery bags and put them over your feet and up your ankle. You can literally slip your stocking foots right off. If I don’t have too many layers of socks, sometimes the stocking foots come right off with the wading shoe. Be careful of using the white bags that have red printing on them, the red comes off and stains the inside of my waders and my socks. I stick with the blue bags from our local grocery stores. See there is a good use for those bags, even though they are “trashed” for not being “green”.

Why stop with just plastic grocery bags?

A couple years ago, a guy on another forum posted a picture of himself in waders he had made from a plastic garbage bag and duct tape.

I would think putting plastic bags on your feet would trap moisture. That would not be good in cold climates like where I live.

The neoprene booties on waders are not breathable anyway and trap moisture, so you are no worse off. I use the plastic bags all winter here steelhead fishing, and believe me, they slip right off and I am so happy I don’t have to struggle with them at the end of a long cold day! One nice thing is if you have a small leak in your bootie your foot still stays relatively dry, that’s how we started using them in the first place. The easy off thing was just a great side benefit. We did occasionally use small trash bags, but they did come up too high and trapped moisture farther up our legs where the waders would normally be breathable.

My Cloudveil waders have some sort of slick material in the foot area under the neoprene. These do slide off easier than any other brand I’ve had but it’s that darn lack of flexibility in these old bones that gets me.
