Tadpole Rod Swap Part 2...The Build

Has anyone measured the pieces in the middle where the ferrules go? I’m looking to get some brass ferrules and was wondering if anyone new what size I’d need?

Also, since I didn’t get it cut with one piece longer…would a spigot ferrule not be ideal? meaning am I going to have trouble getting the pieces to be equal?

Yep, I was talking about the spigot ferrule. I figured on using the solid fiberglass piece. I just have several hollow pieces of fiberglass laying around from old telescoping bream poles, and I was trying to find a use for them…

Thanks

I have heard from everyone but Jack Hise and with all the goings on at his place, it doesn’t suprise me.

It’s time to set a new finish date…any thoughts?

Brad

Complete by April 15th. Shipped to be received by May 1 ? Easy for me to say … I’ve only got two rods in production right now!!!
It’s really up to you guys, I’m pretty flexible.

I’m OK with tax day, Betty. You know that’s tax day, right? :stuck_out_tongue: That gives me enough time. I’m good with anything after that also…easy to get along with. I say lets just give everybody a chance to chime in, some of us are no doubt busier than I am.

April 15 sounds good to me.

Hey Brad leave Jack alone he is busy till he drops Joe off at he airport Sunday.

cholcomb13 with both pieces being equal the spiggot would work the best. I have not worked with ferrules before so I am really not the one to ask. April 15th works for me. I have several rods in production but I have already fitted this in. I am excited about this swap and very nervous. Mine will probably be the ugliest one so who ever gets mine be forwarned it will be UGLY.

April 15 sounds good to me. I had some time today, so I got started. I have the spigot installed, the handle glued up, tiptop installed, all of the guides placed and all but 3 guides wrapped along with the keeper and the decal edges. One more session of wrapping, and I’ll be ready to start putting on the finish. It is really going quickly.

Tax day is good for me too.

I would say some time between Apr 15 and May 1 is good. Thanks John

Sounds like April 15 is the target date. If we finish up before that great. Just let us know how your build is coming along.

When everyone is finished, I will draw the names and PM you with the shipping address for your rod. I want to keep it a complete suprise as to who is getting who’s rod.

I have to tell you al that my build is almost done. Just needs a final coat of finish. I hope to get it done this week. I will post a couple pics when it is done.

Brad

That was my next question. If we are going to post pictures, I will post pics when mine is done.

I know it would be a lot to ask, BUT (oh, you knew that was coming!!) … could you all take pictures of the rod you built, with you, and then one of you with your new rod when it’s received? Just thinking it’d be fun!

Shouldn’t be a problem…BUT (my turn :-D) I think the rod is probably not as scary, and this IS a family friendly site.

I’m good with April 15. earlier would be better but hey I’ve got other rods. I stopped by Jann’s this morning for a few last minute parts (grabbed the wrong size tip top) and am ready to go.

I had the same problem. I ordered tiptops based on the rod spec, and they were too small. Fortunately, I had a ceramic top that would fit.

With a full time job and a bunch of Tax Returns due by 4/15 it looks like I’m going to be busy. Thankfully waiting for glue/varnish/epoxy to dry should give me enough time to pay the bills.

I’m OK with 4/15 - I think.

I’m about ready for adding finish, so I’m going to post some preliminary pictures. I wrapped my rod with black metallic thread, trimmed with 2 wraps of silver metallic. The seat is black aluminum, and the guides are black snakes. I like the look.

I think it will look pretty sharp when it gets a coat of finish on it. It will be all gloss black with just the trim bands and decal to set it off. The white ferrule will be the only exception.
