I thought this fly had a recipe with pictures on FAOL. Now when I cannot seem to find it. Anybody have a recipe for it? I remember it was an easy tie. I think I gave all my SWAPFs away.
Thank you …that was the link I was looking for…I was ONE letter off.
yeah it’s a goofy hard to spell name.
I forgot the H…I am not sure even how to pronounce it, but it is a good all around fly.
Its easy to pronounce Swept Hackle Wingless All Purpose Fly. SHWAPF Pronounced Shew-wapffff . Its an ancient word meaning Here fishy fishy…
I can remember all purpose fly…and that is a stretch. I wish I could remember the rest a couple of weeks from now, but I guess that won’t happen. I remembered it starts with an S…rotfl. I know, it is pitiful, but I cannot help that. I put it on my TreeDBNotes, so I have it down, and it is easy to see if I missed a letter.
I still have the one that Al tied for me. No matter how I try, I can’t match his craftsmanship. That fly will never get wet.
I love patterns like this that are simpler to tie than they look. For me a welcome change after some bigger bass patterns that take hours or days(with paint & epoxy etc.) to make. Before I read the “add a bead” comment, I was already thinking what that would be like with a gold cone head and a wire rib counter wrapped around the No-Dub body.
GnuBee, About spit coffee on the keyboard reading that! reminds me of when my teenage daughter declared she was a vegetarian, I told her that ‘vegetarian’ is an old Native American term meaning ‘Lousy Hunter’!
Bet she loved that one, Bass_Bug!

It’s also in Al’s tying program Beginning Fly Tying Part 9.

thanks, I will take a look
I have all the fly patterns for FAOL, available on my computer, in PDF format that requires adobe reader. I did this over the 12 years that I have been on FAOL to help other members of FAOL, because the printing out of articles leaves a lot to be desired. I also have all of "Al Campbells “Fly Tying Series” and other flies on FAOL that are found in other series that normally not connected with fly tying.
If I do not have what you are looking for, I can easily create a PDF article for you. I origianally did this as part of the “Al Campbell Memorial Bench” fund campaign!

Thanks that was a very much appreciated offer. I don’t need it in pdf file though right now. I have this saved on to my TreeDBNotes program.

Curious, Captain. I heard that with the alternate pronunciaton, “SCHWAP eff”, it is a Yiddish-derived word that means; “Here fishy fishy”…
Lingo is a fascinating topic.
Warm regards to all,

By the way Ed, can you talk really really fast when reading your disclaimer like those stupid car financing commercials??? They should read a totally outrageous disclaimer like that onthe radio and see if anyone actually listens to them!
