With all of the swaps that go on here on FAOL, I am curious to see how many folks participate in swaps, and how many swaps you participate in each year. What kind of swaps do you like.
I myself like most any swap. with the variety of swaps here, I get a lot of practice tying many different kinds of flies. I guess you could say I am partial to Terrestrial swaps.
I am in now or have partipated in 43 swaps so far this year.
I have a lot of fun with swaps.
Just my curiosity coming through. Thanks to all in advance. John
Hello John. I suppose I have participated in a dozen swaps in the last year plus I have hosted three of them. I have found that I do my best tying for swaps. This might be because I buy really good hooks and I don’t want to time lousy flies on them. Swaps are a lot of fun. I always learn something and that is valuable to me.

John,
I probably average around 6 swaps a year or so. I have slowed down on swaps a little recently because of other obligations. I will not join a swap unless I am sure I will be able to get the flies in on time.
Steve
Been in I guess 10-12, hosted 5-6 average 1-2 a year (very picky in the swaps I join) Here’s one for you…have you ever denied anyone from joining one of your swaps?
I have been in about 25 swaps this year. I have not joined any lately as I have been trying to get some other things done.
HC yes I have kept a few folks out of my swaps. They are are folks that never got their flies in and never replied to my emails. Not worth the headaches and the trouble.
Rick Z Yep I totally agree with you on that one…got a couple on my ignore list as we speak.
I was just wondering about John, He’s been doing this for quite a while now…
I’ve been hosting about 90% of the swaps I enter. I haven’t had to deny anyone, but there are a couple that I would if they tried to join another one of mine. The guys that I have had the most problems with don’t seem to sign up again. I guess I’m just lucky so far. And everyone is getting better about making deadlines now. I think it is because I started stating that late entries will be returned. That stopped a lot of the delinquency that was going on.
I’ve been in about 1 or 2 a month pretty consistantly.
Great responses so far. Bud no I have not ever denied anyone joining in on a swap. But Like Greg, there are some I would ask not to join. But as Greg said. Those folks don’t seem to rejoin swaps. Thaey are the one’s that join a swap and you never here from them again. John
I have joined close to 2 dozen swaps over the past year and have hosted quite a few as well. I had alot of fun with them and learned more than I had expected over the last year. My tying improved tremendosly and I owe it all to swaps.
I will probably join quite a few this winter but will only do so if I know I can get flies done and mailed long before deadline. As for hosting I’m not sure if I will have time this winter, but if I do I will only run one at once to completion and as has become comon on these boards Late flies will be returned to sender as it’s too much of a headache to delay the swap due to late arrivals as I learned from my mistakes back in the spring.
