Swap of the Month - OCTOBER

The theme for the October swap is Attractor Patterns. We all know of a fly that doesn’t look like any specific food item, but draws fish like a flashing blue light at a K-Mart. Classic patterns, like Mickey Finns, Royal Coachman, Zug Bug or many others are great, as are modern paterns. If you can’t find one you like, feel free to invent your own.

Here’s the list. Let me know what you are tying, and I will add your fly to the list.

All flies are here. I will be mailing them out on Friday.

Thanks for making this a fun swap!

I’m deciding between a madam-X variant, and a stimulator.

Will a Yellow Sally qualify as an attractor?

i`ll be tying a patriot

Would a Diawl Bach nymph be ok??

Or a Black and red mini nymph

Hey greenock , you’ve got my vote. Both are great looking flies.

I will tie a Grumpy Frumpy #14. This fly was designed by Clark Pierce and although i have never used this fly before , here in Utah it seem to have a good reputation. so what better excuse than this swap to give it a try.
ben.

Whoa! Never tried any attractor pattern before. Guess I’ll have to figure out what I want to attempt.

Yellow Sally will work just fine. So will either the Diawl Bach or the Red and Black Nymph.

Looks like lots of cool stuff being done for this one. I’ll get the patterns posted sometime tonight. All heck busted loose at work this weekend, and we are putting in fourteens until we get things straightened out and caught up. I am on a short break now, but I have to go work another shift this afternoon and evening. I’ll tidy up the thread as soon as I get home.

Thanks,
Dave

I would love to get in on this with a Royal Coachman, Dry. I have never done a swap before. I don’t even know what they are, but it sounds interesting. What are the ground rules?

I will do a pattern of my own. A #12 Prince Matt’s. I have them all tied up and ready to go. All I need is an address.

Cal E. Batis

Never having tied one of these before. I looked up the Yellow Sally pattern online, including this website, and was dismayed at the number of different patterns called 'Yellow Sally, with the only common feature being that somewhere on the fly, the color yellow was used.

Not knowing which one was the original pattern, I opted to use the one listed on Orvis’s website. After all, if Orvis says it’s right…who am I to argue?

Here’s what I came up with. It’s on a #14 dry fly hook:

I hope this will be alright with everyone.

I looked at some other Yellow Sally patterns, and I decided to go with one of the neater looking ones for the swap. This one was on YouTube.

Yellow Sallys are on the way.

I’ll do #10 Balloonhead Caddis like Roman Moser from Austria invented.
Sjo

Flies are ready need shipping address please. pattern is the Cupsuptic, ref. Tying Classic Wet Flies by Don Bastian

I’ll tie a usual, in honor of Fran Betters. I cant think of a better attractor, or dry fly. No need for floatant with one of these puppies.

my flies are ready need a add.

my flies are on the way.

Have my Yellow Sallys showed up, yet? If they aren’t there by now, something must be wrong.
