Swap for Newbee Swappers

I’ve read that some tyers have not yet participated in swaps and would like to try. Well, here’s your chance.

Here are the rules and just to let you know, I’m a stickler.

  • This swap will be for guys/gals who have not yet participated in a FAOL swap.
  • Limit will be 7 (6 + me).
  • Everyone will tye 2 flies for each participant. That means the maximum, if there are 7 participants, number of flies you will tye will be 12.
  • Sign up will be till Saturday, July 9 or reaching the max, whichever comes first.
  • Flies are to be completed and received by August 13th. That gives everyone over a month to tie, package and mail 12 flies.
  • Each fly must have a ‘toe tag’ attached to the fly that clearly identifies the: a)pattern name, b)hook size, and c)your name(and handle). For example: Quill Gordon, size 12, Allan Podell(tyeflies).
  • When you mail the flies make sure the container is kind of crush proof.
  • You may mail the flies any way you want but I will mail them back US Priority Mail. The post office provides a box and you get your flies 2-3 after I mail them. So include $3.85 (cash, check or m.o.) for postage.

The THEME for the swap is: Your Favorite Trout Fly but it must consist of 3 or more materials or parts. So a ‘Green Weenie’ for example, is not acceptable.

Oh, we all recognize that sometimes life gets in the way of a swap. If a situation arises and you have a problem, please contact me ASAP so something can be worked out.

I’m not sure if I’ve covered everything, so if anyone has a question, please post because others may have the same one.

Now you guys/gals have no more excuses.

Oh, forgot: You should post the pattern name when you sign-up. Also, if the pattern is not well-known or is different than standard, please post the recipe or include a copy of the recipe with each pair when you mail in your flies.

Allan

dou you mind canadian swappers??
if so, im in.
two flies of the same pattern??

Hi Mike,

As long as you mail out your package to meet the deadline, you’re welcome to join in.

Each person will tye one pattern of their choice so that everyone receives 2 flies from everyone else. For example, if there are a total of 7 swappers and if I were to tye Quill Gordons, I would tye 12 of that pattern so that each participant gets 2.

Allan

step up to the plate, newbees.
this is a great opportunity.
nothing wrong w/ being a stickler, allan, that’s how you bring these things off w/out any hitches.

mgj

Canadian swappers
should tie twice as many
because of the exchange rate.

Likewise, if you are sending
to Canada, you send half as many.

Just my thought for the day,
but will leave it up to the
Swapmeister.(Hee-Hee)

Im in this swap, so i just have to post, or email the fly name to you? does it matter what type of fly we tie, example streamer, dry fly, etc.?

mikey - Thanks for support.

MPW - Interesting idea G but not with this swap.

fishy - You have mail.

Allan

Tyeflies - great idea - why not open it up a bit to allow some who have particpated but still consider themselves to be a newbe. Leave the post as is and then open it up in 5 days to participated newbes to fill up the swap. I just read gardenfish post on fly tying and he participated in my bugger swap - he is right on - he put a lot of effort in those buggers and they looked great. I had no idea he was a newbe.

Tyeflies,I would like to try the Black Ghost on a 3xl size 10 w/ Guinea for the cheek(kinda like #270 here on FAOL). Not sure if I have any black floss though.

“I’ve often wondered why it is that so many anglers spend so much money on,and pay so much attention to.the details on the wrong end of the fly line.If they took as much care in selecting or tying their flies as they did in the selection of the reel and rod,They might be able to gain the real extra edge that makes it possible to fool a fish that has,in fact, seen it all before” A.K.Best

“Wish ya great fishing”

Okay, so far here are the people who have signed up:

Mike K
Fishy Guts
Flying Carp
Bill Knepp

Room for 2 more.

Allan

I would like to join as well. I am considering a #14 ribbed hare’s ear (modified slightly), an elk hair caddis, or a variety of a pheasant tail in #14 or #16, but I need a day or so to make my final decision, if that is ok.
And thanks for hosting this, tyeflies. It is the perfect way for us to get started.

Okay,

Mike K
Fishy Guts
Flying Carp
Bill Knepp
Ol’ blue

Room for one more.

Allan

Alright im going to tie a little fly i created myself, called the stretch tube caddis, in size 12 hook. when i send them to tyeflies, i will make some cards that have the recipe on them.

Thanks tyeflies, any other info that you need from me other than when the flies are sent out?..

Guys,

I’ll be out of town for about 6 days so for those of you who are so gung ho, here’s my addy. I think I’ve covered all aspects of the swap. The way it stands right now there are 6 swappers but I’m sure the full compliment will be reached. So tye 12 flies. If by chance a 7th swapper does not join, I’ll return any excess flies you’ve tied.

Have fun.

Please count me in. Pattern to be determined. Thanks.

If you’ll take an extra I’ll tie a sure fire winner. Blue Mountain Dragon. Let me know.

Float tube’n daddy,
You can have my spot. I have recently moved into a new home and my wife has a “honey-do” list a mile long. I’ve participated in swaps on other forums before, so I’m not really a “newbie”. Just have never been in a FAOL swap.
