Sustut Steelhead

Hi folks, Heading for the Sustut on Sept. 1. An old Atlantic Salmon guy but first time for Steelhead. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance…Rich

Welcome to FAOL idoc, well i don’t know where the Sustut is nor do i know anything about the steelhead there but there seems to be some ‘universals’ that i’ve noticed at the rivers i’ve flyfished for steel and those include a rod say 7 to 9 wt, floating, sink tip, heads and traditional salmon/steelhead style flies. Spey rods are more and more popular but not needed, unless of course the Sustut is one of those large wide and flat rivers that call for 140ft or so casts.

You’ll want the best wading gear you have of course, a wading staff, a good wide brimmed hat, plenty of water and snacks…well, because you may not want to stop all day…you know, just like when you’re chasing Atlantics. Hope a little of this helps you and again, welcome to the board idoc.

Cheers,

MontanaMoose
