If I’m pontooning or wading swift rivers I always include a PFD. If hiking in the back country I leave a message on my windshield about where I’m going and how long I’m planning to be gone. I make sure someone knows that info too. As for what I carry along:
12 oz trail mix
H2O
22 cal colt Huntsman
Staff with a compass on top of handle
Leatherman
emergency blanket
8" Case hunting Knife
a coil of nylon twine
a small monocular
a small package of tissue
extra socks and thermals.
Small 1st aid kit with snake bite kit
I have a wind up flashlight/radio/cell phone charger that recharges with the crank.

cell phone
And other things I might need as I prepare for the hike.
The majority of this stuff except the gun and the cell phone stays in a rucksack in the back of my Vue all year round along with 2 ponchos and a sleeping bag, hippers and fishing gear. Be Prepared. Jim

Point well taken. I haven’t had that happen yet. Maybe the folks watch out for each other’s cars where I go. Usually I park at patrolled trailhead parking lots. Maybe that’s the broken glass I see on the side of the road in non-parking areas. Jim:confused:

In a small pouch I carry;
Small plastic bag of Kleenex ( as Betty pointed out double duty)
Asprin
Anacid tablets
Matches
Hand sanitizer
I also take a small bottle of water and a granola and or candy bar.
I always carry a Swiss Army knife no matter where I am.
