Superline leaders

I went bass fishing the first day it cooled down here this week and did quite well. 4 off the surface in a matter of 1 1/2 hours.
Before you say banish him to the WW forum I have a question.
Do any of you use any of the new superlines for leader material?
I was using 4’ of 14# coupled to 4’ of 8# as a bass leader and it seemed to work well.
That’s equivelant to 6# and 3# dia. mono. I needed to put some floatant on it because it seemed to have a tendancy to sink but this stuff is strong and thin.
It just got me to wondering if anyone has used this in other leader formulas.

I was actually thinking on using some 10lb fireline as leader material for pike this weekend. I use fireline for atleast the leader section on all my spinning and trolling rods that I use for pike too. It is very strong stuff and abbrasion resistant. One tooth nick in even 20-30lb mono results in break offs if not noticed and trimmed out. Using straight mono I usally fish with wire leaders, but around here in pressured lakes the pike seem to be wise to this. Using just 10lb fireline eliminates the need for the wire leader. I get more hookups with the fireline than the wire leaders and less break offs than mono. Using a well set up rod, with properly set drag I am confident i could land 20lb plus pike on 10 lb fire line.

I’ll let you know how it goes this weekend using fieline as tippet material fly fishing for pike.

I guess if you get an irretrievable snag the mono part of the leader breaks? That superline is awfully strong.
