I know Friday was the first official day of Summer 2008 but tonight I was out in the back yard and I witnessed two sure signs of summer. I was watching a squall line of thundershowers work their way way over the mountain ridges. Suddenly the air just above the ground became alive with little bright green flashes. The fireflies are here!
Thundershowers that do not bring thunder-snow and fireflies. Yep, Summer Is Here! Now does anyone have a good fly recipe for the firefly?
Not a recipe, but you have prompted me to finish my firefly pattern! Is it possible to paint foam in glow in the dark green? If not I can use yellow foam.
When I finish and post pictures it will be in fly tying.
Love to see the fire flies. I guess that is one good thing about living in the east/midwest eh?
I don’t know about fish, but I once caught a couple toads that we kept in a 50 gallon aquarium tank. One of them was a little bitty one that was about 2/3 the size of the palm of my hand. We would catch fire flies and let the toads eat them. When the little one ate them, you could see the fire flies light up in his belly when you turned the lights out!
I love summer!
yea, they’re popping up all over here in N.W., Iowa.
For the next few weeks, they are all over in swarms almost. There’s a strength of road, when driving at early evening, you see them all over along side the road, swarming, almost like it a frenzy breeding You usually end up with a windshield looking like it just got hit with a paint ball gun, bright fluoro. green all over the place. But it’s really neat to see’em out in the fields glowing all over the place.
I saw fireflies for the first time last summer in Rhode Island. Of course, I had heard about them and seen pictures of them, but to see them dancing around the shrubs was really a delight.
