Hi
My son who is relatively new to fly fishing will be visiting me in late March early April and I would like to plan a couple trips for “any thing”. I’d appreciate suggestions on where we might go and guide recommendations. Both of us are somewhat limited to fishing from a boat. Thanks for your help. Dave
Gates Lodge. Hire a guide for one day.
www.fishbaldwin.com is the web site for Baldwin Bait and Tackle. Despite the name they have a good fly shop with guide service for steelhead at that time of year.
Late March - early April is steelhead time in Mich. Try the Orvis Lodge in Baldwin for a nice guided trip and a place to stay. There are many other steelhead lodges and guides on the PM and Manistee but regular trout opener is not until the last Saturday in April.

I caught some of my first panfish on a flyrod from a rented rowboat in Kent Lake. It would be pretty early in the season for that, both the catching and the renting. If you get a couple of nice days with the sun warming the shallows early, who knows…won’t know until ya try.
Otherwise what JC suggested and rainbow and Bobinmich also.
Enjoy

Thanks I’ve been in touch with Rusty Gates, Schmidts and PM Lodge. I live but 10 miles from kent/Kennsigton.
