Subsitute for Lagartun French Mini Flatbraid

I love the Lagartun French Mini Flatbraid. I’ve used it for years mainly as wingcases on small nymphs. However, it seems to be increasingly hard to find and I’m wondering if there are suitable substitutes. I want something very close to the same width and very thin, flat.

I’ve got some UTC Midge Sparkle braid which is a little too narrow and not as flat as I’d like.

I also tried some Uni Small Flat Braid which is thicker, not as flat as I’d like.

I know there are a few other products from Veevus, Hareline and perhaps others. Wondering if anyone has tried them and can provide a comparison to Lagartun Mini Flatbraid?

Welcome back to PT and thanks to him for reminding me of this with his recent post using the Hareline flat braid.

John,

Nature’s Spirit distributes Lagartun products in the US. Mini Flat Braid is listed on their site:

One of my fly tying friends calls them on a fairly regular basis to be appraised of their Compara Dun Hair stock, since it’s becoming very difficult to find. They sent him some leftover scraps to help him out until they got more supplies. Take the time to look at all the products listed on the left hand column of the NS site. They have added a bunch of interesting and useful items for tying…

I noticed that The Caddis Fly Shop has Mini Flat Braid listed on their site for purchase:

I really like Lagartun 74 Denier Thread. It’s not the strongest on the market but it really lays flat. That product is also listed on the Nature’s Spirit link above. The Fisherman’s Spot, here in LA, orders it for me when I ask them …
