stuck sections

I have tried the behind the knees method, I have tried heating it, the 2 person 1 hand on each section method, 2 person behind the knees method, and wrapping it in ice then imploying many of the afore mentioned methods. Yet, to try is to place the rod into someone’s cold storage locker for a day. This will have to wait until I can find such a locker that will let me place my rod in it.

Any other methods out there for unsticking stuck rod sections?

 Hi Kerry just set it out side my front door it was -2 here today when I got up!

Merry Christmas

Rich

A hypodermic needle and Marvs Mystry Oil. If aneedle is not available use anything to get the mystry oil into the joint. Once it is unstuck clean the oil off and use steel wool to clen the joint so it no longer sticks

Kerry, cane, graphite, old, new? Value?

My question also, is it a metal ferrule? Try the wax or soap once you get then apart.
On bamboo, the rod sections must go straight in or they will stick (NO TWISTING)
Rich Ward, nice to see an ID Falls person on here. Go there on a regular basis and YES IT IS COLD. Great fishing at the power plants though.
Sorry for the bump.

Just discovered this week that I have the same problem. The rod is a 7-6, 4-piece, TFO Lefty Kreh 3-wt. When I bought it last spring, I began storing it in a spare 4-foot tube, so I’d only disassemble it into two pieces. This week when I went to put it in a new 24" case, the top two sections came apart fine, but the butt and second sections are stuck fast. Any additional ideas would be appreciated.

Graphite. Sage 8124, 2 hander. Rod was only made for a few years in the mid 90s and in my opinion the best 2 handed rod ever made. Value? Priceless or a couple hundred bucks depending on your point of view.

Kerry, those were awesome rods! Not sure about getting it apart, but once you do, use paraffin wax. It’ll help hold it together and help taking it apart.

I can’t tell from the original post, but I’d try ice again. Adding in the reference to cold storage I’m assuming that the entire ferrule sections were iced. The trick with ice is to ice only the male ferrule so it shrinks that tiny bit.

Why didn’t I think of that

Kerry; Once had a stuck joint and like you used up all the Known methods of undoing with no joy.

An Old Codger told me to try Wintergreen [Witches Hazel]Just the tiniest bit and left over night to soak in.Worked a treat Best Penetrating Oil in the world.Just one snag It has a pungent aroma that lingers some. Warm soapy water will prevail.

Hope you get it sorted. Jax

It will also perk up you breath.

Is it just me, or does the “let it soak overnight” scare anyone else when it comes to a rod. If it can soak it in, how strong is it?

Probably means soak into the joint.

Got cha. Witch Hazel is pretty cool stuff and mild.

Kerry, you know at least once a year I try to pound it into these guys about using candle wax, They always refuse to do it, but I write it anyway. I am sure you do use it though, any chance yours was worn off? I check mine often as it does wear away some. If it has some still on it, I have no other ideas on getting it appart other than the ‘bigger hammer’ method. I think you have tied the two guys facing each other, each guy has one hand on EACH PIECE. That requires a cross-handed position. This is the strongest method I know of.

JC,

Well, no, I didn’t use any wax on the rod. The rod is over 10 years old and I have never used wax on it. Hmmmmmm, maybe I will now. It got stuck when standing in a boat and assembling the rod, the boat rocked when I pushed the sections and the combo action caused far more pressure to be applied then normal.

I will try the witches hazel. Wintergreen you say?
