A good part with any basket is using it to get the feel of it. Some work better worn close to the stripping hand while others you might position a bit different. Good luck with yours.
I use the Rubber maid basket but instead of Plastic ties, I found that a plastic “Mitt Dryer” (used to dry wet mittens over a heat vent register) fits wedged in the bottom and does not require glue.
It can be pulled out and the basket filled with gear to travel.
I drilled holes for drainage and it works great.
Shown here with a baby striper that was released shortly after.

Looks great Duff.
Better than that Marty…it works great.
I’m sure it does. I see you got a nice sized striper there. Nice!
I don’t have one of these, yet, but a couple of guys that I know have one and swear by it.

I had a message/question from a visitor on how to access my blog pics of my stripping baskets: Read the message, tried to respond and it disappeared, never to be found again??? Anyway if you are following along here it is:

So I did get a chance to test my WJ stripping basket with the mentioned modification and it worked like a charm. No problems with my line.
I have one, the best thing about it is that it stays in the pack since it collapses. I still want another one with cones since when I shoot line it tangles often. By the way here is a nice video of how to actually use the basket that you have. There are a couple of good tips here: http://aswf.info/images/stripping_basket_and_retrieves.mov
Unfortunately my “upgrade” to my WJ basked didn’t quite work as expected so next time I’m taking my plastic basket.
Just wanted to report.
I considered making one based on this thread but ended up getting a $25 off coupon from Orvis for any purchase over $50 so I bought Orvis hard basket. No modifying, no fuss, no muss, done deal. I like it. I think that this might have ended up like my fly tying vise purchases. If I made something, I would have wanted an Orvis basket still so I would have taken the time to make one, then not been 100% satisfied then bought one in addition to what I spent in time and money to make one. For me, that isn’t the way to save money. To each his own.
On the vise deal, it took me buying 3 vises in 2 1/2 years to end up getting the one that I should have bought to begin with, so I am still whinning about that and remembering that experience.

Yep, I might end up doing that later on. I was looking at that one and I really like it. It is a most have (IMHO) if you’re fishing the surf. The WJ was a headache even with the board I added.
Oh well, you live and learn.
Martin and anyone who wants one, Orvis just sent me an email with a $25 off gift certificate for any item over $50. The stripping basket from Orvis is $59 and with the $25 off comes to $34. Anyone wants the coupon just pm me your email and addy and I will send you a copy. The current coupon is good from April 29th through May 9th. I’ve enclosed a picture of my stripping basket from a few days ago.
