I manage an acre pond for our sportsmans association, and with things being so tight I was hopeing to find someone to direct me where to get the components to make my own, I already have the poly rope, we have about 125 kids attending our trout rodeo annually so thats alot of components . any ideas our sources where to buy the stuff would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance, heinrich
your local hardware store ought to have key rings, if you buy in bulk and explain what it is for they might cut you a deal, for the metal point, I think I would try painting the rope with epoxy to see if I could make it stiff enough to work. Shrink tubeing might work to make the end if you can find a place to buy in bulk.
You might also check at walmart and see what they will do for you in buying them in bulk.

One of the big boxes should have the cord in bulk or Netcraft has a 1 lb. .095" green filament nylon cord (385’) for <$14. A good candle to burn the ends every 3 ft. and 60’ of 1/8" metal tubing. Electrical pliers to crimp the tubing onto the cord and side cutter to cut it into a pointed 6" end. Voila a bunch of stringer?
never thought of the metal tubing , i gotta go measure on of my strands of poly rope. I am broke ,so i gotta find something to make this work. I bought 10 rod and reels for the first 10 golden rainbows brought to the check in. we also bought a new aerator to turn over an acre pond, so i am at my limit, thnk you Jesse
My fondest memories as a kid involve a forked willow stick and a mess of trout…
If I was the manager down at the big box, I would jump at the opportunity to help develop a 125 kids into consumers of fishing tackle.

It has turned into a pattern of pass the buck, ,oh thats corporate donation, we are a non-profit group and i have the paperwork, but in todays rocky business world that dont mean squat, just pass the buck. there are not very many people out there in big box that are willing to sharing their insight and knowledge of what they have learned over the years, .One store, Bass pro in Harrisburg Pa, has 2 older than me gentlemen working in it . they were very helpful locals, customer oriented ,we talked about everthing under the sun from the decline of the wild pheasant in Pa since the 70’s to the municipal and ag run of into the Susquehana river and the “dead zones” the polution has created. For me it was like walking into the local Ace hardware store
Tie a small Bowlin knott at one end of a 24" piece of line. Dip the other end into a pot of melted wax. Or straighten out a paperclip, put a loop inone end, feed the line through it and tie a knott. Melt the knott if you want. WALAA!
If you don’t want to have the fish bunched up at the end of the rope, you could try metal shower curtain hooks spaced out. Just an idea, i’ve never tried it.
Why not teach Catch and Release?
No stringers needed.
Trout live to be caught another day.
Kids learn something other than “Catch 'em all, kill 'em all.”
