Streamer eyes

Will someone tell me who the historic tier was that used small stamped brass eyes instead of jungle cock?
I recall they were quite small and had fine finger-like extensions on one edge for tying on.
Are these pieces available today? Thanks

The tier was Bill Edson. He started out useing JC and then came up with the reflector eyes at some point later on. They are available again.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Ray,

The story I read is that he had a friend that worked at a clock factory, and that the brass eyes were actually pieces of scrap brass that was stamped out of clock faces or something similar, as one of the steps needed to form the faces. They were thus manufacturing scrap. He began by selling the streamers he tied with jungle cock and later added the brass eyes versions. Finally he sold so many of the brass eye type flies, and so few of the jungle cock ones, that he finally discontinued the jungle cock version.

Gandolf

Good evening Ray, send me a PM if you would like a source for the Edson eyes.

I used them in a couple of my recent ties. Mark Vendon made the Edson cheeks. I think they are worthy of using in new patterns.

Here is some of Bill Edson flies that I’ve tied…

I am so glad Mark is keeping Bill Edson’s brass cheeks/eyes tradition on. They are the nicest ones I have seen
out there. I am thrilled he is making them for us.
