Stoopid Question

Ok time for a stoopid question. I recently bought Scientific Anglers fly line dressing. It cam with a free cleaning pad. No directions for the pad. I side of the pad is foam, the other not. Which side do you use for cleaning the line? Do ya use the foam side or the other.
Thanks

Just people to afraid to ask. Like maybe me.
I used the foam side and it seemed to work fine.

Basically the foam side is to apply the cleaner/dressing. The rough side is for the newer flylines which have a “built-in” dressing which you clean and expose a “new” surface with the pad.

Clean with the rough side, apply dressing with the foam side. Also, don’t forget to wash the dressing off your hands before you cast, I’d hate to see anyone throw a perfectly good rod into the drink.

Actually did that with one of my daughters’ crappie rods once…, “Watch closely, here’s how you cast.” SPLOOSHhhh!!! We got the rod back by casting over it with another one. The girls never really took to fishing for some reason… :?

You’re supposed to clean your line???

oooops!

Semper Fi!

Well, Only if it’s dirty!..

I clean my fly line after every fishing outing, with some sudsy soap and water. I also wipe down the fly rod blank and guides. I strip the line off of the reel, passing it through a soft cloth of sudsy soap to a tub clean water. Then I wind the line back onto the reel, passing the line through a soft dry rag.

While the line is off the reel, take a used tooth brush to clean the inner workings of the reel, to get out and dirt and grit. Then reassemble the reel.

I let the rod, reel and line; air dry before storing it inside a closed case.

Cleaning up after fishing, is similar to cleaning up the kitchen after cooking and eating. Everything is ready to go the next time.
