Allen Crist had a bag of reels, lines and stuff swiped from his truck in Glen Rose TX,
I’ve posted a list on the Stolen String below…please keep an eye out on eBay, the local newspaper ‘for sale’ listings, sporting goods shop and pawn shops. Al (flysoup) has been very active in teaching kids and this gear appears to be what he used for classes.
Too bad if it was another angler that took it. Up here, … we’re pretty lucky, … too much traffic to let some fellow poke around in anothers truck without another angler, warden or Guide stopping to see if he “needs” anything.
Allen’s a great guy and a real asset to the fly fishing community here in Texas. It’s too bad someone has treated him so shabbily – he of all people certainly doesn’t deserve it.
We’ll keep a lookout, Allen, and in the meantime you’re welcome to borrow my stuff.

This is the kind of criminal that I would like to catch…then again, I don’t need to go to jail either…
Allen, I have a few reels laying around that would be good for teaching kids, and I knew that sooner or later someone may need them. You are certainly welcome to them.
Up here we had someone(s)
break into a local food pantry
and take everything.
The sad part is that all they needed to do was ask, so the manager said.
Now the not for profit/donations only
opperation has to come up with the
money to repair the damages.
Not to mention the computers and office
supplies that were taken.
It was the people in that neigborhood,
(the same ones that were being given
the food) that stole it according to the cops, who later caught one of 'em!
Why would anyone steal something they
could have if they just asked?
What is our society coming to?
Sorry to hear of your loss.
I know how much stuff I have,
and would hate to have to try
and replace it.

Good news, the reels have been recovered. The ‘kids’ who took them tried to sell them at a local pawn shop. BUSTED! No word on the lines 'tho. At least Allen didn’t lose
quite as much.
Wards of the state covers the punishment phase. But what about detering them from doing it again?
How about making them learn to use the equipment and then teach the other kids that they denied class time too. And maybe free classes as well to begin replacing what isn’t recovered. They might get so wrapped up in FF’n that they won’t have time to be bored and steal. They just might turn out to be some of the best darned guides you ever fished with.
Sometimes it just takes a little attention from an adult to fix the problem. Isn’t that why most kids “act out”, their looking for attention?
Just my 2 cents.
Analizing our differences not only leads to enlightenment, but also to new and interesting ideas that you yourself may never have thought of.
