Great article Dave. I also had a difficult time learning how to set (or not set) the hook. I also understand your pining for the salt air. I used to live in Seattle. A beautiful region, but too populated for me. Last year I extended an invitation to you to join us at the Idaho Fish-In. I understand that you were overwhelmed with unplanned adgendas, but this year is no excuse. So, I’m extending another cordial invitation to you to join us at the Idaho Fish-In in Lowell Idaho. It’s close to the last week in September and only a short jaunt down the hiway from Missoula. No excuses buddy, I’m sure I can speak for everyone that we are all looking forward to meeting you. I’ll even tie you up a bundle of flies for the Selway. What say friend? Can we expect to see you there? It will be more fun than you can shake a 9 foot stick at.

Micus lives is right!
Dave, don’t get jealous or anything, but I just spent a few days on Martha’s Vineyard. I played with stripers and blue fish. Lots of action, but the stripers are going into deeper water now. Come on by in September, and you’ll quickly re-earn how to set a hook the pirate way, reinjure your fingers with multiple slits, from line thats “outward bound” and finally what a real bend in the rod feels like.
We miss you out here (though the stripers are declaring your departure as a major vicotry for their species)

I used to live in Salmon country where a hefty hook set was mandatory. When I was transferred out to the interior the first trout I caught got a free ride 100 feet up the beach as I “set” the hook. Don’t worry though, You do get used to it Dave.
Ps Listen to Joe, Lowell Idaho is a hoot!
What Ohiotuber said. It IS good to see your article, Mr. Micus.
