Sticky Silk Line Cure?

Needless to say, this is also an old line. Is there any cure for the stickiness? It is very sticky to say the least.

I just recently used this method on an old silk line I purchased. It too was a sticky mess. The method described in that post worked great, and now I have a great level 4wt silk line!

This method did not however remove cosmetic stains from the line. Would Woolite work for removing grime stains from a silk line? I wish I would have tried that before refinishing the line.

I believe I made some adjustments to that article. See http://overmywaders.com/articles/cleaningsilk.html

Reed, I enjoy your posts here and your blog. I take it from the updates to you article on cleaning silk lines that your teenagers no longer are, and that you now have some peace and quiet.

Ed,

Thank you for the kind words regarding the articles and blog.

You are correct, no teenagers in sight – how I miss them. I’d give anything to hear the fighting again… I never thought I’d say that. Enjoy them while you can, you never know how long they’ll be with you, so savour even the loud, grating moments.

I finished step one over the holidays. The Baking Soda in water worked like magic to my amazement. A Chemical Engineer at work explained the magic. The mixture forms a Base similar to lye which refinishers have been using to strip furniture for ages.

Now I think I will do step 2 with boiled linseed oil.

So far so good.

Yup. My teenagers are now in their 40s. You’re right. But they’re still wonderful when we get together for any occasion. They’re wonderful!! Six “kids” and two parents, spouses and grandkids make for a super party and a most wonderful time. God loves us!!!
