Steven H. McGarthwaite's backcast

Am I the only onethat has noticed that the fisher in McGarthwaite’s signature mpg drops his backcast every time?

Colston

I’ve noticed that too, but I try not to look at it for fear that it might be contagious. g

Great, there goes 3 months of practice. I was using it as a training video.

aaaarrrrrrats

I noticed that just today. i was flattered, thinking he modeled that graphic after me…

I figured the guy was fishing both sides of the stream at the same time. I thought, man, he’s good.

As a newbie to fly casting I thought that was just a device used by the old timers to clear the newbs out of the pool . “Stay away from my backcast Boy”

I use that cast to keep people from crowdnig me. I’ll throw a couple of casts along close to the bank in either direction when someone starts looking like they want to move closer. They usually change their mind. :0

Don

Okay you find a video image that shows a better cast and I will use it. Think of it this way, it is an up stream - down stream cast, covering two bodies of water at half the effort.

Parnelli

Otherwise I may suggest everyone go wading in deep water with large rocks in their waders.

Parnelli,
I wouldn’t change a thing! I think it looks exactly like your casting stroke

“G” maybe he catches more fish…

Spelling and Grammar not subject to judgement…

You know I went back and watched the guy casting for over an hour and in all that time He dropped the back cast every single time . I guess it is habit now and too late to correct . Not only that he never paused long enough to actually fish .

Maybe thats the cast that they talk about in a river runs through it. The one where the brother just hovers the fly over the water so the fish can see it but they can’t actually get it, because brad pit is such and excellent fly caster

Who has time for stress when there are fish to catch.

Just lookin back…and it reminds me of a trip to a well know PA fly shop where the owners were giving casting lesson’s at their shop side pond…And these ppl make their living Flyfishing!..

“I’ve often wondered why it is that so many anglers spend so much money on,and pay so much attention to.the details on the wrong end of the fly line.If they took as much care in selecting or tying their flies as they did in the selection of the reel and rod,They might be able to gain the real extra edge that makes it possible to fool a fish that has,in fact, seen it all before” A.K.Best

Everyone wants to excel in this sport but at the same time we let traditionalists place restrictions on our tactics, methods, and ideas. I always assumed that fly fishing was a sport that allowed imagination, creation, adaptation, investigation, dedication, education, revelation? : Fox Statler, On Spinners (Not the dainty Dry Fly kind) “Spinner’d Minner Fly”

“Wish ya great fishing”

Bill

I remember when I was a little kid seeing my father catch a fish on a bad back cast

You all need to look at it one more time and look real close. He is not standing in water! That is green grass around his knees which tells me he is standing on a gravel bar in the middle of the river and he is fishing the stream on both sides of the bar at the same time!! He is that good and you all are just jealous!!
