Ok,I’m ready to start wrapping my first rod. Should I wrap the thread back over the tag end Or, use some kind of knott to get started?

No knots. Make two wraps while holding the tag end, then cross the other end over the two wraps and start wrapping - after about 5-6 wraps, cut the tag off and go from there.
I might suggest you obtain a copy of Tom Kirkman’s book on Rod Building - it has a lot of helpful information.

Thanks for the help. I’ll look into the book for rod #2. I’m making a 9’ 5wt for my wife before I take on a 9’ 3wt for Panfish and a 9’ 9wt for the salt. So far I think I’m doing ok the tricky part was the cork handle and reaming and prepping for the real seat. Minor cosmetic flaws but then again I won’t be fishing it. I’ll post pictures when it’s done.
