St. Croix Magna Flex rod

I just picked up a vintage St. Croix Magna Flex spin/casting/fly rod in like new condition. The soft sided case it came with is in perfect shape too. I checked the St. Croix website and apparently they started producing this model in 1963. It has gold plated guides and the darn thing is so pretty I’m almost afraid to fish with it.

Does anybody out there fish with with vintage rods? This one is fiberglass filled with urethane. I would appreciate any comments regarding the pros and cons of fishing with vintage rods.

I have a number of vintage/bamboo fly rods that will probably never touch the water again, even though, I believe they are tools that unless you have senimental or monatary feelings for it you should use them for what they were intended. That being said have someone that deals with vintage equipment take a look at it to determine if the thing will fly apart on you after one use, in my own experience, has happened.

I fish with all my old rods, most just once a year.
No sense in having them if you don’t use them.
